My first journey into Flat Tops Wilderness began west of Yampa, Colorado along the Bear River. Bear River feeds three reservoirs in the area. This one, Yampa Reservoir seems the most scenic, looking more like a natural lake than the others. The hiking trail begins at Stillwater Reservoir near here at 10,255 feet above sea level.
