Waterpocket Fold — Capitol Reef National Park

Photo of The Week
This photo, taken from the Strike Valley Overlook shows a portion of the Waterpocket Fold in Capitol Reef National Park. The Fold is a nearly 100 mile long warp in the earth's crust. The overlook can be reached via a short hike at the end of the Upper Muley Twist road in the southern portion of the park.

Capitol Reef, an out-of-the-way National Park in Utah is best explored in a high clearance two-wheel-drive (or better) vehicle, or on foot. There are few paved roads.
