Here's the view northeast from near the top of Loveland Pass on US Highway 6. Before the Eisenhower/Johnson tunnels were built through the mountain along I-70, Loveland Pass was the major route from Denver to western Colorado. It is now a short cut to the ski areas of Arapahoe Basin and Keystone for skiers coming from cities along Colorado's front range. Note the snow fences near the top of the peak in the center. They are designed to slow the wind and collect snow to keep it off the large avalanche chute to their right which runs down to I-70 below.
