| Beaver Creek Resort was conceived in the late sixties/early seventies when Colorado was considering hosting the 1976 Winter Olympics. The site was considered a good one for some of the alpine skiing events. Colorado voters decided against hosting the Olympics but Vail Associates, owner/operator of Vail Mountain and owner of the Beaver Creek ski base location proceeded with plans to develop the Beaver Creek area into a ski resort. By the late 70's construction was well underway. The ski area opened in the winter of 1980-81 and now, the village at the base of the ski area is nearly complete. Since it is a resort built from scratch where there was nothing before, it is perhaps one of the best-planned ski resorts in the world. Click on the thumbnails to view the panoramas. |
