Upheaval Canyon Trail is nearly flat over its entire 3.5 mile length. The elevation change from one end to the other is barely over 200 feet. In a few places the trail climbs slightly to shortcut the meandering wash but there is little difficulty involved until you have to climb out of the canyon on Syncline Trail. The sand is packed in the canyon wash for most of its length and makes for easy walking. April 15 was a good time for this hike. It was still cool (high around 75°F) and the leaves were just coming out on the cottonwood trees, providing some color and shade.
