235,000 plus acres of the Routt and White River National Forests comprise Flat Tops, the second largest wilderness area in Colorado (next to Weminuche in the southwest which is twice the size). Flat tops is no slouch; twice the size of Holy Cross or Eagles Nest. One can explore Flat Tops on a maze of hiking trails totaling well over 100 miles. Mountain uprising has created wide flat summits on many of the mountains giving Flat Tops Wilderness its name. Click here to see a 360° panorama from one of those flat topped mountains.
