Climbing Mt. Bierstadt from Guanella Pass, you hike almost directly east. Starting early on a clear day, this makes photographing the mountain difficult. My guide book indicated there would be difficulty with bogs and willow bushes at the beginning of the hike but the problem has been rectified with trail maintenance and a series of boardwalks. Mount Bierstadt is the rounded mountain at upper right. The Sawtooth Ridge traverse from Mount Evans is seen to its left.
