Since Bighorn Trail is relatively short, it's fun to hike off-trail beyond the cabin and explore Bighorn Creek drainage and its headwaters. West and several hundred feet above the end of the trail, this is the smaller of two tarns (small lakes) near the ridge separating Bighorn drainage from Pitkin drainage.
