I followed a less traditional route to Grays Peak, starting on Peru Creek Road a few miles from Montezuma, Colorado. The trail, an old four wheel drive road, starts into Chihuahua Gulch and turns east into Ruby Gulch. I started at 6:15 and the sun finally hit my face around 8:00 here at 11,600 feet near the base of Cooper Mountain.
