On September 7, it was cloudy so we decided not to hike the whole loop but to head for the high point on the trail at 12,800 feet, about two miles, where there is a view of Independence Lake and Lost Man Lake. Just short of Independence Lake you can look back and see Linkins Lake (right of center) which can be reached on a short side trail we skipped.
