This shot was taken at the head of North Rock Creek below 13,041 foot Grand Traverse Peak. Above and left of this small lake, the summit is cut off at the top of the picture. Please click here to look down from above. The sawtooth ridge directly above the lake is the Grand Traverse, which connects North Traverse Peak and Grand Traverse Peak. Over that ridge and downhill a few miles is Vail, Colorado. This place is not easy to get to, as there is no trail most of the way. Options for access include bushwhacking through dense forest, scrambling for miles over large boulders, or both. I don't know why there is no forest service trail leading here but I had it all to myself. |
