Zion was designated a National Park in 1919 and now hosts more than 2.5 million visitors per year. Traffic congestion had become a problem so shuttle busses now provide transportation in Zion Canyon. Bicycles are allowed in Zion Canyon but private motorized vehicles are not. Vehicles may access the rest of the park and may travel through from the south entrance to the east entrance or vice versa, bypassing Zion Canyon.
