Cedar Breaks National Monument lies in southwest Utah in the vicinity of Zion, Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon National Parks. Roughly three miles across, Cedar Breaks is smaller than its national park neighbors but there are two trails along the rim where you might easily spend a whole day hiking and enjoying the views of this colorful amphitheater. This photo was taken from the Ramparts Trail. At 10,000 feet above sea level, Cedar Breaks is roughly 4000 feet higher than Zion and 2000 feet higher than Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon. While the facilities close in mid October, winter activities such as cross country skiing and snowshoeing may be enjoyed here. |
