I rarely see wildlife near the trails in the wilderness for several reasons. I'm usually moving pretty fast. I'm not very observant. Where I hike, other people also hike, with their dogs. Wild animals are usually smart enough not to hang around where there might be dogs. Yesterday as luck would have it I was taking a picture of this beaver pond and a deer walked right into the photo. The pond is along Turret Creek Trail in Flat Tops Wilderness.

If you hike in a designated wilderness with your dog, please keep it on a leash. It's required by law.
