It's "mud season" here in the central Rockies. There's still a lot of snow at higher elevations, where it will be another six weeks or so before the hiking trails are dry. One can hike into the mountains if prepared to make the transition from ground to snow at about 10,000 feet. This shot was taken at about that elevation in late May, 1999 along the Booth Creek trail near Vail.
