Until the Eisenhower/Johnson tunnels were built in the 70's and 80's, US Highway 6 over Loveland Pass was the main route from Colorado's western slope to Denver. The trip from Vail to Denver in the 60's over Vail Pass and Loveland Pass was about four hours. Now, with I-70 complete, it's an easy 90 minute drive. There's little doubt the older route was more scenic. This panorama was shot just a couple hundred feet away from Highway 6 at the top of 11,990 foot Loveland Pass.
