Breckenridge
Like several Colorado ski towns, Breckenridge has its origins in mining. It was settled in the mid 19th century during the gold rush and grew as silver and lead were also discovered. Mining continued until the 1940s. After the opening of the Breckenridge Ski Area in 1961, the town quickly moved to an economy based on recreation and tourism.
