Independence Pass is the short route from Aspen to Leadville on Colorado Highway 82 during the summer. The summit of the pass is at 12,095 feet above sea level. It would be expensive and dangerous to plow the snow from this winding mountain road during winter, so it is closed for more than half the year. This panorama was captured June 27, 1999, shortly after the road was opened for the summer. It was one of my first panoramas with early digital equipment and software. I had and still have a lot to learn.
