I began my Syncline Loop hike headed west toward Upheaval Canyon. The trail is relatively unexciting until after about 20 minutes when it begins the descent into the Canyon. It's not the easiest trail to follow on the descent. Careful attention must be paid to the cairns that mark the trail and that you have not stepped off the main trail onto a number of false leads that might look like trails. There are even some false cairns on the false trails, so be careful to stick to the well-beaten path.
