Here at the 11,000 foot level after about two hours, 45 minutes, I reluctantly abandoned my attempt to reach Lonesome Lake. The snow was soft and I was breaking through up to my knees with nearly every step. There were few clearings in the trees where I could avoid the snow. Typically, hiking on top of spring snow is not such a problem. I guess recent warm weather has softened the snow pack more than usual. Since I was the only one out here, I was concerned about turning an ankle or worse if I broke through the snow in a bad place.
