It seemed like I was off to a good start on my hike to Missouri Pass on June 23. I set my altimeter (the map showed that the trailhead was at 10,000 feet) checked my watchnine o’clocka pretty early start after an hour drive to the trail, and then I forgot and left my hat in the car. Twenty minutes up the trail I realized my mistake and turned back wanting to kick myself all the way back to the trailhead. There is no way can I spend all day in the sun without a hat! [Note to self: Never do that again!] After 40 minutes I was back to where I had been, wondering if the two extra needless miles would prevent me from reaching my goal. One hour in (er, one hour forty minutes) at 10,900 feet, the Missouri Lake Trail breaks out of the trees and affords this beautiful view. My anger at myself had now subsided.
