Upper Piney River Trail starts out about as scenic as anywhere. The view of Piney River Valley and the Gore Range for the first mile is breathtaking. Parking for Upper Piney River Trail is on the right side of the road just before the ranch gate for Piney River Ranch which is private property. The trailhead is just to the left of the gate. The trail skirts around the property where activities at Piney Lake such as horseback riding and canoeing are offered.
