Beginning at Piney Lake, Upper Piney River Trail leads to Upper Piney Lake at the headwaters of the Piney River. To get to the trail follow Red Sandstone Road out of Vail, Colorado for six tenths of a mile to Forest Service Road #700 on the left. Follow this dirt road, passable in low clearance vehicles, for about 11 miles to the gate for Piney River Ranch. Upper Piney Lake lies just above 11,000 feet surrounded by peaks of the Gore Range in Eagles Nest Wilderness. Please click the thumbnails to see photos with descriptions of the trail.
