Deluge Lake Trail begins in East Vail, Colorado at about 8700 feet above sea level. The first couple of miles are steep and heavily forested. Also known as Deluge Creek Trail, it eventually climbs more than 3000 feet to Deluge Lake. This panorama was shot on the Fourth of July next to Deluge Lake at about 11,760 feet in the heart of the Gore Range, Eagles Nest Wilderness. The lake was still half frozen but thawing fast. Strong hikers can reach Deluge Lake in about three hours. It takes me almost four. Please click here for an overhead view of Deluge Lake, or here for more photos from the trail.
