The under-appreciated portion of Zion National Park, near the east entrance, features interesting rock formations. The slickrock, colored in white and pastel shades of orange and red has been eroded into fantastic shapes, etched with odd patterns. Checkerboard Mesa is one of the best examples of this unusual erosion.
